<\/p>\n
Perry\u2019s Imaginary Dog<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Perry always was a strange lad,<\/p>\n
seeing pictures in clouds,<\/p>\n
hearing voices from trees.<\/p>\n
So when Perry said he had an<\/p>\n
imaginary dog<\/p>\n
we snickered behind our hands,<\/p>\n
whilst pretending to listen<\/p>\n
very intently to his stories.<\/p>\n
After all, he was a good lad,<\/p>\n
was our Perry.<\/p>\n
Not a mean bone in his body,<\/p>\n
always helpful to his Mum,<\/p>\n
and didn\u2019t he mow Mrs. Gracey\u2019s<\/p>\n
yard when Mr. Gracey was ill?<\/p>\n
Yes, indeed, he did.<\/p>\n
So if he takes comfort from an<\/p>\n
imaginary dog,<\/p>\n
we, all of us, we\u2019ll let him have<\/p>\n
his comfort and not bother him about it.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
So, that was all well and good, don\u2019t y\u2019know,<\/p>\n
\u2018til that one particular Saturday<\/p>\n
when young Perry was helping me put fresh thatch<\/p>\n
on the roof of my cottage.<\/p>\n
I\u2019d just gone down the ladder and picked up<\/p>\n
an armload of thatch, put one foot on the ladder<\/p>\n
to head back up,<\/p>\n
when Perry yells out, \u201cNo, Scotty, No! Stop!\u201d<\/p>\n
And my word and williwigs if that<\/p>\n
imaginary dog<\/p>\n
didn\u2019t run between my feet,<\/p>\n
knocking me off balance, so I fell and<\/p>\n
dropped the whole lot of thatch on the ground!<\/p>\n
thoroughly disgusted, I told young Perry<\/p>\n
he\u2019d best be teaching his<\/p>\n
imaginary dog<\/p>\n
some manners!<\/p>\n
