{"id":76688,"date":"2020-06-28T08:45:30","date_gmt":"2020-06-28T12:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=76688"},"modified":"2020-06-28T08:45:30","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T12:45:30","slug":"fin-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/fin-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Fin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The only gift I ever wanted came to me,<br \/>\nThe only thing I\u2019ve ever wanted, since I was three<br \/>\nWhen all I ever wanted was to be<br \/>\nHappily married<br \/>\nTo, exactly, only and both: Brad and Dee<\/p>\n<p>Forever happened forever and it never came to me<br \/>\nForever happened for far too long, and I failed to see<br \/>\nWhy forever happened differently for all others and for me<br \/>\nWhy forever never happened like I wanted it to be<\/p>\n<p>Fourfuxs\u00e4k, it isn\u2019t fair at all<br \/>\nI\u2019m twice as nice, at least, as Sally Know-It-All<br \/>\nAnd nearly, almost as pretty as that girl you knew before<br \/>\nBesides, you said I was the most beautiful &#8211; and even more<br \/>\nYou said I was the smartest and the easiest to talk to<br \/>\nYou said I was the most amazing girl you ever knew<br \/>\nYou SAID you\u2019d be here TOMORROW &#8211; and, didn\u2019t you ever learn?<br \/>\nFinders-Keepers and Indian Givers never found a thing they\u2019d earn<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s fine.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s all just fine-and-dandy, now.<br \/>\nAnd you can keep on chewing cud with that heifer you call a cow<br \/>\n(And I don\u2019t mean that girl you\u2019re sleeping with these days<br \/>\nI haven\u2019t anything against her; and you\u2019re just living in a haze<br \/>\nDeceit is worst, you know, when you turn it on yourself<br \/>\nBut that\u2019s for me to know and you to find in some book upon your shelf)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s FINE, I said, because, you know that guy across the way?<br \/>\nNo, not that way; the other way &#8211; I met him twice the other day<br \/>\nAnd twice again the next morning, twice in the afternoon<br \/>\n\u2018Cause he kept on showing up with the clockwork of the moon<br \/>\nEverything HE did, he said to me he\u2019d do<br \/>\nAnd there he was, sure-as-shock and true as true is true<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s fine; he\u2019s fine; we\u2019re fine; I\u2019m fine<br \/>\nAnd all is right-as-rain<br \/>\nI\u2019ll catch up with you another time<br \/>\nI\u2019m seeing him again<\/p>\n<p>And every time I see him, it\u2019s his mind I treasure more<br \/>\nFor that, alone, is all I wished to even up the score<br \/>\nSomehow, he\u2019s just the type of guy to open up my door<br \/>\n(A bit my dad would be proud of, it\u2019s his favorite romantic lore)<\/p>\n<p>And, though I never wanted for gifts of pretty rings<br \/>\nHe hunts in every shop we pass for jewelry and things<br \/>\nHe tells me:  What he wants for me is that I\u2019ll always know<br \/>\nHis heart is mine forever (this he says with eyes aglow)<br \/>\nAnd never must I worry that his mind is true, as well<br \/>\nFor, he says, I\u2019m astounding and without me, he\u2019s in hell<\/p>\n<p>Isn\u2019t it the strangest thing, to find one\u2019s counterpart?<br \/>\nI\u2019d be scared &#8211;
