{"id":76690,"date":"2020-06-28T08:46:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-28T12:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=76690"},"modified":"2020-06-28T08:46:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T12:46:19","slug":"remember-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/remember-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Remember"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember<\/p>\n<p>You vowed never to forget<br \/>\nTuesday, September 11, 2001,<br \/>\na business morning, workers rushing<br \/>\nto beat time clocks, when the first plane hit<br \/>\nbetween floors 93-99 of the 110-story<br \/>\nNorth Tower; it\u2019s 8:46am, do you remember?<br \/>\nAt 9:03am, a second plane hits floors 77-85<br \/>\nof the South Tower of the World Trade Center.<\/p>\n<p>Nineteen terrorists on suicide attacks, hijacking<br \/>\nplanes, a third hits the pentagon at 9:37am<br \/>\nand a fourth crashes into a field at 10:03am<br \/>\nin Shanksville, Pennsylvania. At 9:59am,<br \/>\nthe South Tower collapses, followed at 10:28<br \/>\nby the North Tower. Do you remember where<br \/>\nyou were, what you were doing when you heard<br \/>\nthe news? I am sure you remember the grief,<br \/>\ndisbelief, anger, distrust, misery, heart-shredding<br \/>\npain these attacks caused.<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember the chaos, falling steel and<br \/>\nconcrete debris, fires, and dust everywhere.<br \/>\nHorror of human cinders, cries for help, and<br \/>\ndo you remember the uniforms rushing in to<br \/>\nhelp, to do their duty to shield their community<br \/>\nfrom terrorists?<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters trained to control flames,<br \/>\nambulance workers trained to save lives,<br \/>\nand police officers sworn to protect and serve.<br \/>\nOne minute after the first plane hit the North Tower,<br \/>\npolice were dispatched to the scene, along with fire-<br \/>\nfighters and emergency service personnel. One minute.<br \/>\nDo you remember the photos of police covered in dust,<br \/>\ncarrying survivors, mourning victims, their tears real?<br \/>\nI wonder if you remember how proud you were of them,<br \/>\nhow proud of our city, state, and country.<\/p>\n<p>Try to envision the pride you displayed in seeing in flags<br \/>\nflown everywhere, our red white and blue; bloodshed<br \/>\nfrom innocent victims, protected by blue uniforms.<br \/>\nRemember?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mission of the NYC Police Department<br \/>\nis to enhance the quality of life in NYC by working<br \/>\nin partnership with the community to enforce the law,<br \/>\npreserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and<br \/>\nmaintain order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember last week when you were captured<br \/>\nby the press marching in protest, flinging profanities<br \/>\nand middle finger threats at police officers there,<br \/>\ndoing their job to keep the peace, to keep you safe<br \/>\nby controlling non-peaceful protestors?<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember 9\/11, Patriot Day, 2,996 victims,<br \/>\n25,000 injured, memorials of flowers and pictures<br \/>\non street corners and billboards, the missing, the agony,<br \/>\nthe loyalty of a united nation.<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember how you said<br \/>\nyou\u2019d never forget&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>~ J R Turek<br \/>\nJune 28, 2020<br \/>\nHour 24<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember You vowed never to forget Tuesday, September 11, 2001, a business morning, workers rushing to beat time clocks, when the first plane hit between floors 93-99 of the 110-story North Tower; it\u2019s 8:46am, do you remember?
