Not a\u00a0good morning was this one –
\nJust to be honest.<\/p>\n
A late night at my treasure island of a job
\nHad me staring through miles of brake lights
\nIn the soft moonlight of
\nAfter hours freeway construction.<\/p>\n
And then…<\/p>\n
And then!
\nAfter filling two tanks,
\nBoth mine and the car’s,<\/p>\n
Three hours later,
\nYes, THREE, two in the
\nSoft moonlight of construction,<\/p>\n
Nearly home, within minutes, of my front door,
\nDriving through a welcome mist
\nCalled rain here in the drought,<\/p>\n
Flashing lights.
\nCaution cones.<\/p>\n
Police cars in the soft mist of hallelujah
\nWater from the sky!
\nNo moonlight.<\/p>\n
DUI checkpoint ahead.
\nNo one’s dead.<\/p>\n
Hallelujah!<\/p>\n
“Good morning, Ma’am.”
\nOh, yea…. I did leave the office at ten.
\nIt’s nearly one in the moonless misty morning.<\/p>\n
“Any alcohol tonight?”<\/p>\n
By now, don’t I wish!
\nSlowed by providence\u00a0another ten minutes,
\nTo ensure a triple commute.<\/p>\n
Thou shalt not save time
\nPlaying hooky
\nJust to clean the house!<\/p>\n
Teens at the curb
\nWear smirking smiles
\nOf mischief
\nWaiting for Daddy
\nIn pajamas.<\/p>\n
Could have been worse.<\/p>\n
