You look at me with your young eyes<\/p>\n
and you do not see me.<\/p>\n
You see a crippled old man<\/p>\n
hobbling over a walking frame<\/p>\n
legs bowed from Polio’s kiss<\/p>\n
spine curved from Gravity’s cruelty.<\/p>\n
You watch me manoeuvre that frame<\/p>\n
from road to path via gutter<\/p>\n
and wonder if I’ll fall backwards.<\/p>\n
Well, so do I. Every day.<\/p>\n
Still, the perils of an old, broken body<\/p>\n
cannot stop the muscles controlling my joy<\/p>\n
and if you look closely, beyond the liberal creases<\/p>\n
of the years I’ve lived<\/p>\n
up through the crevices of endurance…<\/p>\n
if you guide\u00a0your gaze to my eyes<\/p>\n
you will see they are still dancing.<\/p>\n
