WELCOMING WOODS<\/p>\n

(based on my painting, Welcoming Woods)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The forest beckons me today<\/p>\n

to come and wander and weave<\/p>\n

my way through paths of sun-speckled, twisted roots<\/p>\n

and sheltering boughs<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A raven\u2019s shrill call invites me<\/p>\n

Deeper,<\/p>\n

deeper into his<\/p>\n

sacred space<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Feathered residents<\/p>\n

wary of my presence<\/p>\n

cry out<\/p>\n

hoots and twitters<\/p>\n

coos and shrieks –<\/p>\n

Are you friend or foe?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I settle on the stump<\/p>\n

of an ancient oak<\/p>\n

its rings of life still solid, strong<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I close my eyes<\/p>\n

Whispering boughs rustle overhead<\/p>\n

A gentle breeze kisses my cheek<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I inhale<\/p>\n

The scent of rich moist earth<\/p>\n

and fresh pine fills my senses<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My heart rate slows<\/p>\n

to the forest\u2019s rhythm<\/p>\n

I am one with the life around me<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
