My child boy now a grown man<\/p>\n
or solidly between the two<\/p>\n
helps an elderly couple load<\/p>\n
their mulch in the back of their car<\/p>\n
in the parking lot of Home Depot.<\/p>\n
Me, 20 minutes away, sipping tea<\/p>\n
and grading papers has no idea<\/p>\n
that at the moment, the life I raised<\/p>\n
saw another life in need and reached<\/p>\n
out to extend his humanity.<\/p>\n
The joy of this unseen convinces<\/p>\n
me that we will be all right.<\/p>\n
That maybe I am a good parent<\/p>\n
for all of my trying<\/p>\n
who knows when it comes down to it<\/p>\n
until moments like this<\/p>\n
and suddenly my blood courses<\/p>\n
with a hope that just might save us all.<\/p>\n
