It was the celebration of<\/p>\n
Summer,<\/p>\n
The Strawberry Moon.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A full moon to bring in the<\/p>\n
innocence gone wild<\/p>\n
and to call in<\/p>\n
the dances of the animals from<\/p>\n
their slumber of restlessness.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Instead, the sky was screened in<\/p>\n
a translucent cloth of<\/p>\n
smoke,<\/p>\n
making the<\/p>\n
Moon red.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Cries soared the air as<\/p>\n
homes dissipated to ashes,<\/p>\n
covering the nearby towns.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Plumes of all shapes rose,<\/p>\n
wanting to escape<\/p>\n
the heat of an angry bird<\/p>\n
that once was called legend.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The fire flew to one town<\/p>\n
then<\/p>\n
to a forest<\/p>\n
eating what was not offered.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Ashes mimicked flakes of snow<\/p>\n
dancing, floating in the wind,<\/p>\n
instead of melting,<\/p>\n
it was a crude reminder:<\/p>\n
The Phoenix lives<\/p>\n
when we make mistakes<\/p>\n
to not care for Mother.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A reminder that it will turn<\/p>\n
the moon red<\/p>\n
