silent phase,<\/p>\n

for the last month,<\/p>\n

the brother and sister,<\/p>\n

after the fight.<\/p>\n

Neither remembered<\/p>\n

the cause, just the words.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sister was older<\/p>\n

and keeper of rules.<\/p>\n

She decided when<\/p>\n

to talk again.<\/p>\n

Brother waited in<\/p>\n

sullen, angry,<\/p>\n

silence.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sister got a letter,<\/p>\n

an admission to college,<\/p>\n

800 miles away.<\/p>\n

She\u2019d be gone<\/p>\n

in two days.<\/p>\n

Something cracked inside<\/p>\n

brother.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He rode his cycle<\/p>\n

for one hour.<\/p>\n

100-degree heat,<\/p>\n

on a summer Madras day.<\/p>\n

Moore Market sold<\/p>\n

second-hand books<\/p>\n

all he could afford.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pouring with sweat and breathless,<\/p>\n

muttered for the train<\/em><\/p>\n

and gave to sister.<\/p>\n

She looked at the tattered book<\/p>\n

her favorite author,<\/p>\n

and muttered in turn.<\/p>\n

Teenage siblings<\/p>\n

do not hug.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On the 24-hour<\/p>\n

train ride,<\/p>\n

she cried each time,<\/p>\n
