{"id":90459,"date":"2021-06-26T12:29:40","date_gmt":"2021-06-26T16:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=90459"},"modified":"2021-06-28T06:29:29","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T10:29:29","slug":"withering-mountains-hour-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2021\/06\/withering-mountains-hour-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Withering Mountains (Hour 4)"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Striated towers of earth, <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">secret pillared mountains emerging from the mists.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How majestic you are, <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">each cut separately from the other, <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">collonades assembled like the ribs of a fallen giant.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once upon a time were you not all <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of the same mountainous hillside?<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Centuries shaped you, withered you, <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">carved away until the skeletal towers <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">protruded above the disintegration.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How too are our lives like crumbling mountains,<\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">rumbling tempos of ridgelines, uneven,<\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Severed and regal, creviced and lowly.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Peeled away by storms and <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stripped to the bare rock face.<\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Softened in hanging clouds, <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">moisture heavy layers shed <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">against heightened winds.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I too cling to the bottom of the sky,<\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My body a broken staircase to the stars, <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My life a releasing grasp at the heavens<\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dwindling, loosening, falling to rubble and rock fields <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of its former magnificence.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fractured edges lose altitude, <\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">landslides of lifetimes,<\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Echo on the high plains below. <\/span><\/pre>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Striated towers of earth, secret pillared mountains emerging from the mists.
