2 dig as deep as I wanted<\/p>\n
And permits for the land<\/p>\n
Which I’d researched 4 beforehand.<\/p>\n
I finally broke the earth,<\/p>\n
Dug 6 feet down (for what it’s worth)<\/p>\n
Thought about stopping to grab a ladder<\/p>\n
But nah, I kept digging and couldn’t be gladder.<\/p>\n
8 feet down I struck solid<\/p>\n
An iron tube with a dated lid<\/p>\n
And inside 10 items sealed<\/p>\n
Over 9 hundred years ago<\/p>\n
It seemed suspect in a country founded<\/p>\n
Less than 7 months prior<\/p>\n
And iron only began<\/p>\n
Being processed and manufactured<\/p>\n
5 weeks ago.<\/p>\n
I opened it eagerly<\/p>\n
Not bothering to climb out.<\/p>\n
Immediately apparent were 3 facts.<\/p>\n
A few of the items had disintegrated upon contact with air<\/p>\n
A few glowed a sickly green<\/p>\n
Leaving me with 1 item to pick up safely.<\/p>\n
A cube made of clear solid material<\/p>\n
With a chip in the corner<\/p>\n
And engraved but unreachable<\/p>\n
The word Duck.<\/p>\n
I heard the barrel click as I turned it over<\/p>\n
