{"id":91444,"date":"2021-06-26T13:31:44","date_gmt":"2021-06-26T17:31:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=91444"},"modified":"2021-06-26T20:16:44","modified_gmt":"2021-06-27T00:16:44","slug":"prompt-5-poem-5-grandma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2021\/06\/prompt-5-poem-5-grandma\/","title":{"rendered":"Prompt 5, Poem 5: Grandma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rain has cleansed the town,<\/p>\n<p>nourishing the grass and flowers;<\/p>\n<p>I sit on the front porch,<\/p>\n<p>breathing in the clean air.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, one of my cats comes running across the yard<\/p>\n<p>and stops, batting at an object sticking out of the ground.<\/p>\n<p>I cautiously approach and poke the blue circular glass object with my foot.<\/p>\n<p>It begins to turn and shake violently, blue smoke rising from the middle.<\/p>\n<p>I am swallowed by the blue smoke and dropped into my grandma\u2019s old living room.<\/p>\n<p>I watch my 6 year old self and my 4 year old cousin, dressed for summer, talking to<\/p>\n<p>Grandma in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><em>We are playing house, <\/em>we tell her<em>. We need a job.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>How about a famous author? <\/em>Grandma suggests.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m teleported into grandma\u2019s living room with blue couches, the one<\/p>\n<p>in front of the window rocks.<\/p>\n<p>I watch as we each sit on a pillow, construction paper and markers<\/p>\n<p>surrounding us on the coffee table.<\/p>\n<p>We write away with little chatter and show Grandma after.<\/p>\n<p>She gives us a quarter for every story.<\/p>\n<p>We feel like good mom\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>My heart warms.<\/p>\n<p>Blue smoke fills the air and I am brought back home.<\/p>\n<p>What is this trying to tell me?<\/p>\n<p>Publish a book?<\/p>\n<p>I sigh as my cat rubs against my legs.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s still my dream.<\/p>\n<p>Later, I sit writing poems with other poets.<\/p>\n<p>Grandma would be proud<\/p>\n<p>that I never gave up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rain has cleansed the town, nourishing the grass and flowers; I sit on the front porch, breathing in the clean air.
