Burst water pipe,<\/span><\/p>\n

I never liked water.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dig down<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Clink\u00a0clink<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I stumble on a time\u00a0capsule;\u00a0its origins are unknown.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a lone photo inside<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And a poem<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I read the poem first.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDear…\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rest of the top line has been smudged.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry. You were the light of my life, you gave me life as I gave you yours. I took it away. Maybe we\u2019ll meet some other day, but not too soon.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I unravel the faded photo.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There must have been a leak in the capsule.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A mother sits with her young daughter on a swing,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It seems familiar.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t keep many photos following… It\u00a0was too hard.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They tell me it\u2019s unhealthy to repress memories.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The water was shallow; I turned for only a brief moment<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She was gone.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The poem should have read \u201cDear Margaret, my loving daughter.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Time to fix the water pipe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
