They call it the dance of the lemons –<\/p>\n

the teachers who are not given tenure<\/p>\n

after working diligently for four years –<\/p>\n

after studying in their fields for four years –<\/p>\n

and obtaining master’s degrees, too –<\/p>\n

They call it the dance of the lemons.<\/p>\n

It only takes one administrator to deny tenure<\/p>\n

and that sets the course into action.<\/p>\n

No other school will take the dancer seriously.<\/p>\n

Outrageous demands will be put on them –<\/p>\n

forcing them to perform acrobatic feats of<\/p>\n

academic excellence – 100% on standardized<\/p>\n

tests (that tests skills and nothing more) –<\/p>\n

100% attendance\"\" (as if they somehow<\/p>\n

are accountable for their students’ lives.)<\/p>\n

100% on volunteering for unpaid activities –<\/p>\n

which creates hatred among the tenured teachers.<\/p>\n

It’s a dog-eat-dog existence.<\/p>\n

Dancing the lemon dance as if you are not good enough,<\/p>\n

squeezed of every last drop of sour-tasting energy.<\/p>\n

Tested from right to left and left to right –<\/p>\n

ball chain, ball chain, step in and step out –<\/p>\n

But never give up!<\/p>\n

You are not a lemon!\u00a0 You have touched<\/p>\n
