{"id":92003,"date":"2021-06-26T14:35:33","date_gmt":"2021-06-26T18:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=92003"},"modified":"2021-06-26T14:35:33","modified_gmt":"2021-06-26T18:35:33","slug":"6-getting-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2021\/06\/6-getting-up\/","title":{"rendered":"6 &#8211; Getting up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why is it so steep?<br \/>\nA wagon full<br \/>\nOf children<br \/>\nBut as heavy as a load of lumber<br \/>\nPushes the handle deep into my palms.<br \/>\nI dig in.<br \/>\nA work horse.<\/p>\n<p>I need to conquer the hill.<\/p>\n<p>I dig in<br \/>\nToes trying to stick<br \/>\nAnd cling<br \/>\nThe weight of the cart pushes back<br \/>\nAs four sets of eyes stare.<\/p>\n<p>Ugh.<\/p>\n<p>Swear pour s down in make up drips.<br \/>\nMy head starts to pound.<\/p>\n<p>Up<br \/>\nUp<\/p>\n<p>Why did I wear flip flops?<br \/>\nI may be a work horse<br \/>\nYet I am so poorly shoed.<\/p>\n<p>I vaguely see flowers<br \/>\nA bee<br \/>\nThe weight pushes pasts my palms, into my shoulders.<\/p>\n<p>I heave.<br \/>\nI pant.<\/p>\n<p>I turn the final corner<\/p>\n<p>To find stairs.<\/p>\n<p>Stairs.<br \/>\nI just stare at them<br \/>\nLike I can vanish them<br \/>\nWith visual intensity.<\/p>\n<p>Four different people help lift the wagon.<br \/>\nWe are now a grunting team of 5 horses<br \/>\nStomping the ground<br \/>\nStraining muscles.<\/p>\n<p>For a while<br \/>\nMy breath calms<br \/>\nThe breeze smacks the sweat,<br \/>\nBut the sting is sweet.<\/p>\n<p>The flowers co e to focus.<br \/>\nThe grass greens up.<br \/>\nFor 200 feet<br \/>\nUntil we find more stairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why is it so steep?
