i am haunted by humans*;<\/em><\/p>\n

follow a trail of laughter<\/p>\n

not my own on my way back<\/p>\n

from work, eyes smiling<\/p>\n

with the memory of the way<\/p>\n

she stole my planner and<\/p>\n

wrote ‘my birthday! ;)’ on<\/p>\n

every wednesday except<\/p>\n

for the one in the week of her<\/p>\n

actual birthday, which fell<\/p>\n

on a tuesday, of all days<\/p>\n

i am haunted by humans<\/p>\n

spill water down<\/p>\n

my chin as i drink while<\/p>\n

imagining his eyes as he<\/p>\n

asks me how i’m doing<\/p>\n

in my relationship with God<\/p>\n

and i keep having to<\/p>\n

say ‘i have a lot to work<\/p>\n

on’ and he will tell me<\/p>\n

‘it’s okay, it’s okay<\/p>\n

me too’<\/p>\n

i am haunted by humans<\/p>\n

shoulders drawn up defensively<\/p>\n

recalling th way she<\/p>\n

stared at the side of my face<\/p>\n

while scratching on the chalkboard<\/p>\n

of my insecurities<\/p>\n

with the sentence<\/p>\n

‘i don’t think you are letting<\/p>\n

yourself want this’ because i<\/p>\n

wasn’t, still can’t let myself<\/p>\n

dream of things it might<\/p>\n

cost me a lot to keep<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

i am haunted by humans,<\/p>\n

or better yet, how<\/p>\n

they made me feel<\/p>\n

how i let them in<\/p>\n

just to push them<\/p>\n

away when they<\/p>\n

made me feel too much<\/p>\n

i have only ghosts with<\/p>\n

me, now<\/p>\n

i have only spectres<\/p>\n

following me around,<\/p>\n

whispering of love behind<\/p>\n

every corner, fata morganas<\/p>\n

of the closeness i crave<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

dreaming of an oasis<\/p>\n

is better than none at all<\/p>\n

if i tell myself i am drowning<\/p>\n

maybe i can forget my<\/p>\n

sandy tongue<\/p>\n

maybe i can forget<\/p>\n

the thirst<\/p>\n
