As the grass and the weeds die and wither<\/p>\n

A building is growing — spots of color<\/p>\n

but little diversity<\/p>\n

My eyes are drawn to the yellow door’s handle<\/p>\n

to the red door’s oval spot<\/p>\n

calling attention to themselves<\/p>\n

breaking up the rectangles, the squares<\/p>\n

the patterns<\/p>\n

everywhere else<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But the ground and the grass<\/p>\n

are not cut from cookie dough.<\/p>\n

Maybe I missed something.<\/p>\n

are they weeds?<\/p>\n

are they dead?<\/p>\n

will they see a resurrection<\/p>\n

in the Spring?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Maybe the building is dying.<\/p>\n

Maybe it’s the weed.<\/p>\n

I see no life there.<\/p>\n
