The new normal we got
\nisn’t what I’d envisioned.
\nThere are still racist systems
\nthat have kept us imprisoned
\nby denial and lies
\n–a history’s retelling,
\na prettier story’s been told,
\nbut I won’t buy what they’re selling.
\nI won’t turn a blind eye
\nto centuries of damage.
\nIn the face of injustice,
\nI’ll continue to be outraged.
\nThose who shirk are complicit
\nin the deep harms compounding.
\nTheir persistent denial
\nis for some so confounding.
\nThe answer is clear,
\nthey are serving themselves.
\nAnd forsaking all others
\nfor their comfort and wealth.
\nThe riches enjoyed are taken as given.
\nTheir new normal is just more
\nof the privilege they live in.<\/p>\n
It’s time for real change,
\nand what’s been normal be damned.
\nWe can do this together.
\nDraw a line in the sand.
\nIt’s time we live up to
\nthe this country’s bright promise.
\nWith the strength of our people
