if it was in hiding,<\/p>\n
getting by on a sliver of illumination<\/p>\n
scared of its own shadow.<\/p>\n
I used to hide myself as well<\/p>\n
from everything-<\/p>\n
under layers of distance<\/p>\n
often under layers of clothes<\/p>\n
but that was not normal,<\/p>\n
or so I\u2019ve been told.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always been afraid of mediocrity<\/p>\n
the sister demon to normalcy<\/p>\n
more insidious in its patience<\/p>\n
always loitering around the corner;<\/p>\n
the siren\u2019s call is always there<\/p>\n
if I choose to listen.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
So in my second incarnation,<\/p>\n
as I slowly pick my self-installed locks,<\/p>\n
I can see normal from a distance<\/p>\n
peeking its head out<\/p>\n
curious and waiting to pounce.<\/p>\n
But I walk right by<\/p>\n
