The Good Place<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If I were to pass away today<\/span><\/p>\n

and take leave of my body<\/span><\/p>\n

and find myself on the other side<\/span><\/p>\n

of the thin veil between life and death,<\/span><\/p>\n

where would I wake up?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If there was a heaven,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

would it be like the Christians tell it?<\/span><\/p>\n

Peopled by Raphael\u2019s dough-faced\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

baby cherubim inattentively<\/span><\/p>\n

attending the Madonna\u2019s gate<\/span><\/p>\n

behind which spread buffets of milk and honey?<\/span><\/p>\n

Or would there be terrifying multi-eyed wheel beings\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Like their book says?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If there was a hell,<\/span><\/p>\n

would it be all bad marketing and poop jokes?<\/span><\/p>\n

Would the personal hell awaiting me<\/span><\/p>\n

be built inside of a small windowless office<\/span><\/p>\n

on hold with a doctors office<\/span><\/p>\n

listening to the same muzak on loop\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

for millennia.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Perhaps, there is some middle ground<\/span><\/p>\n

steeped in sepia and perpetual \u201cmeh-ness\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

or some inexplicable void\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

orchestrated by incomprehensible beings.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What careful calculations and\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

mathematics of meaning-making<\/span><\/p>\n

could possibly surmise the contributions<\/span><\/p>\n

of a single life?<\/span><\/p>\n

And what a horrible power to wield.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know the answers<\/span><\/p>\n

or if anyone is really in charge<\/span><\/p>\n

but, I do hope that it is fair<\/span><\/p>\n

that they have a sense of humor,<\/span><\/p>\n

and that there is froyo in the beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n
