Cradling the cold fingers and stroking<\/p>\n
the flat palm, you whisper<\/p>\n
‘”You are stronger than you think”<\/p>\n
just before serving hot coffee,<\/p>\n
two scoops of sugar: a sweet stirring.<\/p>\n
But will the glug of good intentions<\/p>\n
propel her towards action,<\/p>\n
which is needed more than hope?<\/p>\n
C.S. Lewis once wrote,<\/p>\n
“Courage, dear heart!” Words. Just words,<\/p>\n
often not enough to produce.<\/p>\n
Floundering under pressure,<\/p>\n
not knowing what depths to draw from,<\/p>\n
not believing in her own strength or<\/p>\n
ability to build the sinew of change<\/p>\n
and string together the silver gleam<\/p>\n
of weights, too heavy now, but<\/p>\n
with daily pumping, sweat forming, bearing down,<\/p>\n
results will come<\/p>\n
bursting forth like a newborn ready, heart beating,<\/p>\n
ready, unknowing of what lies ahead.<\/p>\n
