He warned me to test the waters
\nbefore entering,
\none toe would do
\nto let me know
\nif I’d be in hot water,
\nbut it certainly wouldn’t tell me
\nif I’d be in deep water
\nover my head.<\/p>\n
But, come hell or high water,
\nby god, I would try.<\/p>\n
He warned me I’d be dead in the water
\nif I didn’t watch out,
\npredators lurk beneath
\neven a local watering hole;
\nit would not be enough
\nto simply
\nkeep my head above water.<\/p>\n
His arguments didn’t hold water with me,
\nI knew I would survive.<\/p>\n
He warned me I’d be a fish out of water
\nwithout him to protect me.
\nHe begged me to stay,
\nbegged me to forgive,
\nin a year it would all be
\nwater under the bridge.<\/p>\n
But soon I was gone, for after all,
