You always got gypped<\/p>\n

So many birthdays in a row<\/p>\n

Then Christmas<\/p>\n

Then New Year’s<\/p>\n

By Jan 7 we were holidayed out<\/p>\n

Our money was gone<\/p>\n

That cake was too much<\/p>\n

After a month of sweets<\/p>\n

Now I would give anything<\/p>\n

To bake you a cake<\/p>\n

Watch you open a mountain of presents<\/p>\n

I know celebrations made you<\/p>\n

uncomfortable<\/p>\n

But your being alive deserved celebration<\/p>\n

Now I mark that day<\/p>\n

As another day without my Dad<\/p>\n

A day after Christmas<\/p>\n

And New Year’s and all those birthdays<\/p>\n

I celebrate it solemnly<\/p>\n

I write you a poem or a Facebook post<\/p>\n

And I think about you<\/p>\n

I wonder about you<\/p>\n

You gave me far more<\/p>\n

Than I ever gave you<\/p>\n

You deserved so much<\/p>\n

You never got<\/p>\n
