Liz\u2019s Woodpeckered Tree<\/h3>\n

(Inspired by my painting, LIZ\u2019S WOODPECKERED TREE
\nand from 2013 and a photo taken of same tree in Spring 2021)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Over 50 years ago you stood proud<\/p>\n

arising from rocks, erect and full of life<\/p>\n

yet time brought on the ravages of age<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You evolved into a host for creepy, crawly things<\/p>\n

a feast offered up for woodpeckers<\/p>\n

who drilled your woody flesh and drained you of life<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Today you rest upon the waters<\/p>\n

waves lash you and strip away what bark remains,<\/p>\n

yet you hang on, your roots held deep beneath the rocky shore.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is tenacity, endurance, strength.<\/p>\n

Against all odds, season after season, you remain<\/p>\n

an icon to keeping on no matter the challenges we face.<\/p>\n
