If you speak of your pain
\nYou’re too much for people
\nThey look away
\nThey fear pain is contagious <\/p>\n
If you keep silent
\nsay nothing about your scars
\nYou’re a liar
\nWoe betide you’re ever caught clothed <\/p>\n
Trauma forces you to walk naked
\nAll the while
\nYou are called obscene
\nIf you don’t expose
\nEvery wound and scar
\nThere are those who will say,
\n‘they’re hiding something’ <\/p>\n
If you tell the world of your pain
\nThey’ll say you’re looking for pity
\nThat you’re probably lying anyhow <\/p>\n
The world is a loaded gun
\nFor any victim of trauma
\nNo matter your race or your background
\nGenerational Abuse can run deep<\/p>\n
Trauma isn’t a race
\nIt isn’t a comparison of who had it worse
\nI’ve won that fight too often
\nTo feel good about how it makes the ‘loser’ feel.
\nTrauma is a dialogue
\nSadly there’s not garage or shop to
\nGet ‘fixed’ at<\/p>\n
Neither is trauma something that we should
\nThink anyone ‘virgin’ of
\nNor should we prize it
\nWe should protect each other from more harm
\nNever punish for harms past or out of our hands now<\/p>\n
The more danger in the world
\nThe more often it seems victims are punished
\nTreated like freaks of the moment at best
\nSurvivors are heroes with strength to
\nDo
\nJust
\nThat
\n…Survive<\/p>\n
Writing and art helps to tell
\nThose stories of survival
\nThe stories of strength
\nGive courage to those who need it
\nFor one more day <\/p>\n
For some, writing is the only way
\nTo let the poison drain
\nFrom the wounds
\nSupport each other
\nLove each other <\/p>\n
every wounded vessel
\nNeeds to be mended with gold
