Very tired. Struggled with this one. It shows!]<\/p>\n<p>When I arrive<br \/>\nthe trail through the woods<br \/>\nhas been paved \u2013<br \/>\nbringing confidence<br \/>\nto those<br \/>\nwith an unsteady or assisted gait, no doubt<br \/>\nYet manufacturing<br \/>\na tidy<br \/>\nthat belies the fallen twig,<br \/>\nthe squabbling birds<\/p>\n<p>The unforgiving thwack<br \/>\nunderfoot<br \/>\nToo hard for a long hike<br \/>\nThe edges \u2013<br \/>\nfalling off abruptly<br \/>\ndefining and delimiting<br \/>\nThis path \u2013<br \/>\nhow far could it go?<br \/>\nThe deep woods are not veined<br \/>\nwith asphalt.<\/p>\n<p>Before, coming here<br \/>\nwas a return<br \/>\nboundaries fading<br \/>\na place that was easy<br \/>\nNow, I resent the encroachment<br \/>\neven as I question my own trespass<br \/>\nMy quitting this place<br \/>\nthis loss<br \/>\nperhaps an unintended protection? <\/p>\n<p>What is taken\/what endures<br \/>\nThis, the walk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Getting harder to write.
