I was often bullied for this but<\/p>\n

I liked stories and sad music<\/p>\n

And maybe I was bullied<\/p>\n

for being weird<\/p>\n

More than my tastes in literature<\/p>\n

But at least with a book<\/p>\n

If it made fun of me<\/p>\n

I could put it down<\/p>\n

And walk away.<\/p>\n

Putting down a bully<\/p>\n

Was heavily discouraged<\/p>\n

And thus impossible to walk away from.<\/p>\n

At least with a book I could travel<\/p>\n

And visit far off lands and times<\/p>\n

With people I’m stuck here<\/p>\n

As me<\/p>\n

In this time alone sometimes.<\/p>\n

At least with a book comes a warning<\/p>\n

Foreshadowing this dog may die<\/p>\n

The pain hurts just as much<\/p>\n

But I was expecting it<\/p>\n

So it’s half over<\/p>\n

When it starts<\/p>\n

But people<\/p>\n

People are so<\/p>\n

Complicated and<\/p>\n

They don’t telegraph it<\/p>\n

When it’s almost over for them<\/p>\n

Books were safer than other people<\/p>\n

Anyway, that’s how it feels.<\/p>\n
