Manipulated<\/p>\n
Day did its job well,
\nthe chore of lighting alleys,
\nbrightening dark corners,
\nmoving clouds and pedestrians
\nthrough their errands and obligations.<\/p>\n
Sometimes, the day drizzles
\na suggestion to focus on the task
\nat hand, sometimes downpours
\na warning to step up, keep up
\nwith your prayers.<\/p>\n
In winter, day reminds us
\nof all we push aside, almost
\nforgotten, moments banked
\nin silence as flakes fall,
\nintrospections, reflections.<\/p>\n
Night flexes in the wings
\nwaiting for a chance to shroud us
\nin dark despair, reveals that day
\nwill never shine again, kidnapped
\nand wrapped in black velvet.<\/p>\n
Stars know where Sun is hidden
\nbut they won\u2019t shine an answer;
\nthey can rule beside Moon both
\nnight and day. They\u2019ve threatened
\nclouds to stay quiet or else.<\/p>\n
Day manipulated by night,
\nSun spurned by Moon, the planets
\nout of orbit, the galaxies tipped
\noff-kilter, darkness reigns the world.
\nWe are imprisoned on our own planet.<\/p>\n
Plants wither and die, no crops to feed
\nthe world; children pale, restricted to
\nstay in, too dark to play outside.
\nHumans become ghostly apparitions,
\ntraveling in flashlight beams.<\/p>\n
Mother Nature appeals to Moon,
\nto stars and clouds; Father Time
\nchimes in to propose a compromise.
\nSun will reign day but Moon will
\ngain extra time each cycle.<\/p>\n
Night is delighted to hear this plan,
\nagrees to release Sun in the morning.
\nMother Nature and Father Time
\nrejoice, secreting that there will be
\nno extra time for a night.<\/p>\n
Moon is manipulated by an empty
\npromise but he doesn\u2019t care. All this
\nshining 24 hours is too much work.
\nWhen day breaks at dawn, he\u2019ll settle
\nin for his much-needed beauty sleep.<\/p>\n
