Sonnet – Alone at Night
I don’t recall when I last stopped to walk
either in the day or in the black of night.
I think I prefer now dark over light
for there is never any need to talk.
And your silence can still give way to shock
so it is best to keep yourself upright.
Until from the journey you can alight
for just a moment sitting on a rock.
Distant cars are an archaic echo
for here there is just you in the present.
In this single moment you feel special,
even living a life you may resent.
To win all you need ever do is try;
walk alone at night and feel like you fly.
