Poem 5: “Great Aunt Bartow”

“Great Aunt Bartow” by Mandy Austin Cook

Oh Come In!  My  DAAAHRLING!

How are you, you amazing  beloved dear?
Sit  and have a peppermint
you simply MUST listen to my day!
………my week
……..my last 18  months
which spans naturally over the last 150 years.
What about? Why, My adventures of sailing the sands
in oceans of otherwise undiscovered realms
of jungle escapading through deserts of  just  down the street
You mean you don’t understand?
Oh how delightful! LET ME EXPLAIN!
I’ll weave a tale of fairy musings
all from the pocket of the elf that lives in my cupboard
it’s a delightful diamond spiderweb!
Couldn’t you just listen ALL DAY?
You couldn’t? Well,  WOULD you… please?
You don’t have to leave? Now?  NOT SO SOON!
I’m creating my French delight today!
You  simply MUST stay!
Oh? Why yes…
of COURSE that means I’m cleaning out the refrigerator
and you’ll receive a witches brew
full of combined leftovers to contemplate…
but it’s my SPECIALTY! Come. Sit. Stay!
Enjoy the eccentricity
for it is my superpower.
