We spent years looking for the perfect house –
200 years old, wide pine floors, walk-in fireplace
with huge central chimney, beech tree, and space for gardens.
We lived longest in an angular house, modern
with high ceilings in odd places, lots of windows
but too many bathrooms, and space for the kids to grow.
I can’t wait to move to my small cottage, alone.
Wow – love how the ‘house’ is a metaphor for the times of your life – wonderful poem!
Thanks so much for your kind words, Cristy.
Interesting ending. For a long time we lived in houses with 1 bathroom for 8 people. It’s wonderful to have a small house now but with 3 bathrooms for just the two of us.
