Where Were We?

Disconnect from daily strife

Lull all thoughts into delight

Soothing sounds spinning

Farther away from reality

Twirling and floating into clouds

Elysian Fields, dreams, calming peace

Pathways and visions of contentment

Time slows and drifts away as

Body clock begins to move and sway

To budding spring memories

New creative desires

Playground dance floor

Twirls like a carousel

Underlying beat and style

Improvise ’til the moon rises

The tide ebbs, the highest mountains

Shimmer and gleam their snow-topped peaks

Indigo shadows mottle the forest’s green floor

Magic awaits!

The spirit of chances taken.

When It’s Time to Say Goodbye

I have already had such a good life

Two precious children, I’ve been a fair wife.

Remember both the good and the bad

Don’t ever let time make you sad

See life through my eyes and know

How proud I am wherever you go.

I will always be with you

No matter what you you want to do

My love can never really end

Protection and prayers I will send

Whatever happens , if I die

It won’t really be goodbye.

Newby in for a Half Marathon

I am a retired 7th and 8th grade English teacher–5 classes a day. In addition, I am a piano and vocal instructor in my home studio. I look forward to taking some creative time for myself now. I’m not sure whether I’ll have the required stamina for the day, but I look forward to giving it my best effort.

I love food, especially chocolate, and enjoy reading, downhill skiing, singing, traveling, and my two grandchildren Olivia 4 and Carter 22 mos. My husband and I camp in our 5th wheel and travel to see our daughter, a freelance photojournalist in Europe, Africa, and Asia. She is presently in Baghdad working for the UN and the Governor of Anbar Province. We will not be visiting there!

My publishing experience includes numerous publicity campaigns for non-profits and several musical reviews for the local newspaper. My poetry has been published in education/writing journals. I like writing free verse as well as formatted poetry.

Look forward to meeting you all and seeing your poems! Donna Jean (DJ)
