8 How Can you Mend A Broken Heart?

Tears welling up around the eyes that trickles down effortlessly

A silent sob, wrecking one’s heart, A forlorn face,

sad trodden eyes, A far-away look, seeing nothing,

Quivering lips that’s partially shut

How can you mend a broken heart?

To understand and accept that what’s not meant to be,

really..not meant to be

That time spent together will be just that…A memory

To cherish, to hold close to your heart, not to let go

To dwell on what ifs, what nots and what WHATS(!)

How can you mend a broken heart?

One must let go, Some says you’re not good together

Nothing lasts a lifetime, nor forever

Everything, everyone is dispensable

and goodbye should be it

How can you mend a broken heart?

Experts say: “This is detrimental to your health”

Better move on and look for worthwhile others

to occupy one’s mind and time

Diversify. There’s lot of fish in the ocean, and so on and so forth

How can you mend a broken heart of a child of 5?

Who looks forward to Fridays and weekends

to be able to be with his TABLET,

that’s taboo during week days and school days?

How can you mend a broken heart?

Help! A grandmom who loves this 5-year old dearly

And a silent participant, who tried to alleviate

the broken heart of NATHAN

With lots of hugs, lots of kisses and tight embraces to boot,

soothing words…?

At a loss, regretfully, nothing works

ahh…life…

7 Giving Up

Sad to say I give up but I have no choice,

I have nothing to hitch my wagon with,

I have no anchor to throw into the water,

I have no sail to help my boat into nothingness,

I am giving up at this halfway stage,

while my sanity is still intact

while I can still do it without much heartaches

while I can still hold my head up high.

Yes , while I still love myself 100% and…

while I still have an ounce of my friends’ respect.

…white flag waving.

6 Elusiveness

An arm’s length but nooks apart,

Perfect symmetry with obtuse angles,

A whispering sigh thru gadgets and networks

A hug to a lingering shadow,

Meaningful kisses, a peck, in an unchartered dream.

What will make touch be touched?

When will words be heard and understood?

Why hugs and embraces cannot be reciprocated by a shadow?

Where will kisses be planted?

On the intended cheek, on the targeted lips?

When will dreams come true?

What? When? Where? and Why not?

Elusively…

5 A Brave Front

I’m trying to maintain a brave front.

But continuous pummeling, left and right,

will leave anyone with a dampened spirit,

downtrodden at that.

There’s a heaviness I can’t explain, darkened clouds hovering

a silent howling.

The better part of me keeps on reminding me, this will pass,

this is a fleeting moment, there’s a rainbow at the end of a storm,

and so on and so forth.

These made me stronger, resolute, firmer

and PRAYERS lots and lots of them,

to maintain that brave front.

4 Mother, Perfect?

Nobody’s perfect. And I mean, nobody.

Even if it happened to be your Mother

She’s not perfect alright,

She’s unreasonable, stubborn, bias and …

That, not perfect.

She may have carried you for 9 months

Gave birth to you, cared for you

Nurtured you, taught you to be a better person

Fed you, kissed your wounds to make it better

And that, still not perfect.

She singlehandedly sent you to get a better education

She labored with you thru homeworks, projects

Mid and final exams, and never to forget Thesis

Perfect? Naww

She painstakingly sit it out

While you were choosing your prom dresses

Took your hands, hugged you, kissed you

To alleviate the pain and ache of your first heartbreak

No, no, not perfect.

She was happy for you

Getting hitched, getting the best man for you

She cried a bucket during that fateful wedding of yours

She was doubled, no, tripled excited

With the new addition to your family

Perfect? You say

Still I’m baffled,

Then pray tell me

What PERFECT means…

(for you Mother, who needs perfection? This is definitely for you.)

3 I’d Rather Be

A Clairvoyant, who could see and hear the lost souls

A Mimic, who apes everyone offending no one

A Dog, loyally in love with one master

All the Superheroes combined – for their righteousness

Incredible Hulk for his tremendous strength

Flash for his unparalleled speed

Iron Man for his ‘metallic’ heart

Batman&Robin, the no-nonsense duo

Superman, who could be human and alien, after all

and of course, Wonder Woman, the epitome of girl’s empowerment.

A Budding Flower, to bloom for the bees and butterflies

A Child of 3, who could be mischievous and full of mischiefs

yet still lovable to grannies and moms alike

A Coconut Tree, standing tall, resiliency personified,

and protective of its fruits

The Sand that meets the ocean’s kisses

A Piranha, a small predator, with gigantic image

A Whale, lovable edifice

A Dolphin, just plain lovable

The Air that we breath

The Sunrise that gives another chance in life

The Night that gives way to Sunrise

The Rain that works in cahoots with Tears

The Thunder, the Lightning, as wake-up callers.

Yes, I’d rather be more

Or a little bit of those

I could not asked for more.

2 AN EARLY DUSK, AN EARLY DAWN

MELANCHOLIC BOTH,

THE FORMER, END OF THE DAY’S UNFULFILLED DREAMS

THE LATTER IS A NEW DAY TO HOPE, ON TO ANOTHER DREAM

DIMINISHING NATURE’S LIGHT,

TURNING ON A NEW SET OF RAYS

BOTH DIMLY LIT, BOTH NEEDS EYE ADJUSTMENT

THE BEST TIME TO THINK AND PONDER,

THE BEST TIME TO START THE DAY RIGHT

MELANCHOLIC BOTH, YES

THE ONE IS ENDING, THE OTHER IS JUST BEGINNING

AN EARLY DUSK, AN EARLY DAWN

ONE IS A CULMINATION, ONE IS AN ONSET

SAME PANORAMIC VIEW

BUT DUSK IS NOSTALGIC, DAWN IS INSPIRING

BOTH GIVES ONE A SENSE OF WELL-BEING

AN EARLY DUST, AN EARLY DAWN

LIKEWISE BEAUTIFUL, LIKEWISE SCENIC

BRINGS PEACE, SERENITY, TRANQUILITY

TO THE PERCEPTIVE ONE

ME…

1 COME QUICKLY, TOMORROW

Yes, a past was obliterated at the blink of an eye

It’s gone and all we have to do is move on to a happier tomorrow.

Sadly, I cannot do anything about it.

Even with concerted effort or help from others,

what He would like to happen, will happen.

Whether we like it or not, whether we have a say or not, it will happen.

IT HAPPENED.

Finger-pointing will not eradicate the blatant fact, it’s all done.

A sad sign, a sad thought, a sad smile, that’s all that I can do for now.

My only consolation is – someone is happy, blissfully happy.

so, come quickly Tomorrow.

Proud GrandMom

I am a proud GrandMom of 3, a beautiful granddotty in the name of Xandra and 2 mischievous little boys, Nathan and Franco. My son Carlo gave me my Xandra and Penny, my daughter, Nathan and Franco. Presently I’m still working as Executive Assistant to the President in a small private family corporation.  My ardent wish is to be a legitimate verser or a poet. And my wish will come to fruition thru the help of The Poetry Marathon. I am excited to start the ball rolling. I am a proud citizen of the Republic of the Philippines. My retirement is nearing and I’m planning to go full blast writing verses and poems. So help me God. Keeping my fingers, legs, eyes, crossed.
