Wooden Hearts

Wooden Hearts
Virginia Carraway Stark

Bonsai trees
Float in a purple sky
As the hoot of an owl
Echoes through the forest
Where restless spirits roam
And trees uproot themselves
To follow their wooden hearts
And the loves that call
To them on owls wings
Gone from their arms
But lingering in the bonsai branches
This is the dream time they have fallen into
But it’s not as scary as the last one

Slumber

Slumber
Virginia Carraway Stark

Resting
When cheekbones
Start to feel numb
From wishes of slumber coming on
Darkness covers the world
Like a blanket of water
But sleep isn’t for me tonight
No matter how it may coo and call
Increasingly shutting eyes
Feels better than open
But still I wake
I have things to do
And tonight the muse is calling

Night

Night
Virginia Carraway Stark

Darkness settles
In the wind and the mist
That rise up from the wild clay soil
Like a cool cloak
Of dark moon splendour
The gloaming is alive
With tendrils of fog that seek
All that is warm and safe
Stars spakkel the sky
In slow degrees
As night seeks me with
The softest fingers
Luring me with the loss
Of my senses as dusk
Puts out my eyes
And wakes me from the world
Into slumber

Sacrifice

Sacrifice
Virginia Carraway Stark

Down they pushed him
His head under the soil
And under the wheels
Of the combine harvester
Blood for the crops
His young face
Once full of smiles
and his young body
With his knocked knees
And a scrape that
He tried not to cry over
But he still
Cried a little
Even though he made his voice brave
A sacrifice was demanded
To make the corn grow tall
His body the offering
Bloody blades
Turn the soil

Hugs :-)

Hugs <3 🙂
Virginia Carraway Stark

Hugs across the miles
Bring me tons of smiles
Because I know
You are glad I am alive
And happy that
I'm in your world
And when you send me
'<3'
It means the world to me
Because I know
That you likely smile
When you see
Me post
Or send a message
Or comment
To you
So thank you for your hugs
Your <3
And your
🙂
Faces
You make me smile too
And every time I see you post
I'm glad that I know you

Horizon

Horizon
Virginia Carraway Stark

Contours of
A living world thread across
The lines of hill and sky
Plunging down and rising
To meet the sea
As undulations fold and sink
Up and down
In synchronized movements
Of chaos
As choreographed as ever
Was any formal French dance
Unplanned beauty
Spraying in wonderful
Magnificence that stuns the viewer
And fills me with awestruck wonder
That this is my horizon

Perspective

Perspective
Virginia Carraway Stark

An ant crawling
Up the side of a cottonwood tree
Doesn’t mind Me
I should feel big staring at him
But I feel as small as this ant
The sky is a bowl
Of vastness
The clouds are mountains
Towering above me
How vast can this world be
Even this cottonwood towers over what is see
I am a mote
And the horizon
Is large as the sea

In Memorium

In Memorium
Virginia Carraway Stark

When you walk beside me
I feel you take my hand
You are lilac scented air
You are sun warmed skin
You are the pleasant breeze
You are the sudden smile
You are the tear in my eye
You are the sweet memory
You are the wisdom that you shared

Changes

Change
Virginia Carraway Stark

Do you feel
How everything happens
Now and then
Without
Knowing
Change just comes
Creeping in
Pouncing
On heavy feet
Who knows what is
Coming next
Never knowing
Always growing
Hoping
That what comes next
Is better than the last

Mystical
Magical toy box
With unlimited
Possibility
Every time a new discovery
Little red riding hood
Flip her
She turns into a wolf
Puppets
And dolls
In handmade dresses and coats
Storybook treasures
Of pirates and ghosts
Lego pieces
Eclectic in their random glory
In a wooden box
With oiled hinges
Out comes backgammon
And marbles
And bits of ribbon
