The Elements

I call upon you
earth
The lady of
stability

I call upon you
water
The man of
agility

I call upon you
air
The lady of
invisibility

I call upon you
fire
The man of
nobility

Come forth and bring us peace
Send your wisdom, release

Come forth and give us lease
Send your hope never to cease

Once Upon A Knock

Once upon a knock
that came to my
door
One that I answered
before I could
implore
Who stood there
in cloak with
dagger
But the one that
we all dread that
backstabber
He promised me
life, long with
hope
But he came
tonight saying
nope
I tried shutting
the heavy front
door
But my strength
he did totally
ignore
I tried to sob
to beg and
plead
He spoke and said
this is what you and I
agreed
I shouted no
I do not
remember
His face grew
grim and long
slender
Hands began to
reach for me
then
I ran away
and prayed deep
amen
I was given a
new chance to
live
I don’t know why
I had nothing left to
give
He shut the door
with one last
glance
I knew not to
waste this
chance

May The Force

May the Force be with you
as you fly through life
Keep your Saber ready
there’s always strife

May the Dark side
stray far from you
To the truth, to the
light, stay true

May your steps be many
the miles you tread
Keep to the ways you know
stray from the Darth you dread

May you Master the force
with wisdom and age
To win the raging war
to end the darkest rage

Through The Storefront Window

Once through the storefront window
The sky scraper was built
through the periwinkle
sky and the gathering
cloud

Once through the storefront window
A needle pulling thread
spread the periwinkle
sheet across the beat-up
stand

Once through the storefront window
The man sold sourdough
to the forest ranger
wearing periwinkle
gumboots

From Chaos Forward

As chaos spills forth
from the universe
The ashes of God’s
dimmed
From the darkest
of surrenders
To the boldest
of light
From the shadow to the
sun’s kiss
The world waited
so peacefully

As chaos always
takes control
The chosen stood
faithless and ready
From being misunderstood
and soulless
To regretting choices
once made
From the path
not taken
The blind walked
forward

My Silly Cat

He sits on the fence
perched like a bird
His head turns crazily
at each new sound

He teases the dog
on the other side
Prancing and whipping
his orange tail

If he falls over
he will be in trouble
He thinks he’s a tiger
my kitten Tigger

Strawberry Summer

Once upon a summer
so long ago

We picked strawberries
in a farmer’s field

I found it delightful
and so fun to eat

The memories stir now
as I watch them grow

Thinking of those days
a summer so long ago

Waiting

Waiting for fall
for those golden
leaves

Watching the sky
for the autumn
rains

Imagining the day
for it seems
far

Dreaming of colors
only fall promises
us

Hoping it lasts
longer each year
new

Praying for fall
for those cooler
days

Waiting for autumn
to finally get
here

Bare Feet

Walking barefoot on the wet grass
Once upon the evening
The rain like broken glass

It shatters upon the blades
as if they were rocks
The day slowly fades

The world smells of earth
of rain and ozone
The day to night giving birth

The wetness invites me
to stay a bit longer
As the clouds parted with glee

The ocean of stars awake
putting on a show
What sweet dreams they make

A lonely step a bit closer
further from my realm
Midnights best composer

All things to love must end
back to the stage
To those I call friend

Until the next time we meet
my love the rain
I shall cover my bare feet

Above Me

Storms stir in the sky
Clouds are again rumbling
Why does she rage
Punching through the sky
Her tears again begin to fall
Like the deepest of oceans
The angriest of seas
As if a boat upon the waves
The sky crushes us again
A mighty God misunderstood
Disturbed and seeking payment
Like the ant that I am
The sky rises above me
