Poem 4- Homecoming

I finally got access to the prompts and decided to try something different. By writing free form, I think I have been cheating a little since it does sound more like prose than poetry. My rhyme did not come out as well and with the additions and deletions it ended up being quite abrupt, but I enjoyed the challenge. Final version attached 🙂

She walked through the rain on the narrow street

Reliving her childhood memories

5 ruppee crisps from the corner shop

The footpath where they played hopscotch

She took a left into a bylane

Past new, unrecognizable window panes

Had war devastated her memories

In the same way it had done their lives?

But then she saw the whitewashed door

With rust stains, the same as before

And she knew she had come home

Except this time she was alone

Final Act – Prompt Six

Screams of pain are soothed by calming words. Sobbing pleas ask for the pain to stop. A needle provides a numbing cold. Time passes with hazy eyes. Excitement blossoms in the early morning. Commands are issedas more people come and go. Preparation is completed and the process begins. Whispers of encouragement float around the room. Focus is directed at the difficult task. Minutes slowly fade into foggy memories. As the final act carries out.

The baby scream out

Teas of joy, spread smiles

The three become one

PEACH PITS

after winter opened her taught fist,
and mountains of snow made ponds in the yard,
my Grandmother nurtured peach pit seeds
for weeks –
ready for transplant…
she mixed rich soil and added her secret nutrients,
the tiny seedlings transferred from cellar slips,
to baby trees ready for a hot house to solidify viability;
each tree that grew healthy in her orchard started
from a pit she saved from grocery store purchases;
mmmm…those juicy fruits prime for pickin’
and pies and preserves never tasted so good.

FLARE

Cold dark lane , all creepy and eerie

Stinking with far gone lives now not so dearie

Dust and dried leaves , all now fossils of past ,

So is she , squeezed up , a bundle of match

Eyes hollow , vast as infinity , beyond

Deep down a match so lone , wanting to light

Cold is she , cold as the frost on the fire

But the fire is all dried up in a deep tire

Cracks up , she strikes up , she tries to light up ,

Lacks she a spark that will burn her all up.

Then came he smiling , a tiny green spark ,

Flew up the depths of her hollow dark eyes

Lit up the match that long drenched in the ice.

She flared up so high that the world was on fire ,

Blazed up she , glared into melting weak ice

Burned long , she fried up the biased old lives

For she was the glory , she was the light ,

She was the spark that fed the inferno.

True Love

Looking for a love as solid as a tree.

I never thought that could be you and me.

Two ships alike we pass as on the sea.

Through minds so tight each others inspiration we light.

Day or night

the fire will burn.

A love song lyrically our breathing will churn.

To hold you dearly my soul does yearn.

A fairy tale no one will know

Four seasons never lonely because our love continues to grow.

Reach to the Light

Their wasn’t know more light in my soul for the warmth.

From my heart.

It was just covered by hell of fire.

That had my soul my soul couldn’t reach to the light.

That shine so far away from my soul their wasn’t know more.

Light in my heart.

My heart was frozen from the ice that is upon my heart.

My body was capture from hell of fire.

Their wasn’t know more warmth from my frozen heart.

My soul was so far away from the light.

That was in my soul before the fire of hell capture my soul.

Darkest place was covering my soul.

Their was know more warmth from the light that .

I had in my soul.

Before my soul got capture from hell of fire.

A silver cocoon #5

Connecting us in ways we’d only once dream about.

Offering an opportunity to say “hi” to those we forgot.

Allowing us to see the smiling faces of loved ones,

who lived on different continents and spoke different tongues.

We delved into the world of the “internet”.

Scouring thousands of posts,

knowledge filtering through our brains-

gaining information everywhere from Australia to Spain.

Infinite possibilities in medicine and IT,

Science and forecasting as easy as 1,2,3.

Silver, grey and microscopic chips plating our homes,

attaching to us all, accommodating to our lifestyles

and possibly in the future- our chromosomes.
