My Mother’s Clothes

She was a fashion bug in the 60s

Then a sexy dresser in the 70s

Then a shoulder pad mama in the 80s

Then a suit and silky pant person in the 90s

Then a yoga pant and long top in the 2000s

Then an old house dress in the 2010s

And now she still in the old house dress.

But she was a beauty queen in the 50s

The Gift

I saw a velvet box

in his room and I knew what it was.

I saw it but I did not open it,

for I knew what it was.

I was afraid I to open it,

because then I would definitely know.

Although I had dreamed of it,

now that it seemed to be here,

I dreaded it.

The Clones

They are from the same generation:

all the females have long hair,

wearing the same as they did when they

were seven years old.

They hate authority and older people.

They never want to get old,

but as they do, the refuse to accept it.

The males have more variation, but much

of the same, only they are weak men.

Night Knows

Night knows when to happen.

It creeps slowly at dusk

making it harder to see.

And when it allows the sun to set,

it breathes heavily like an old man.

It is still and steady.

Esperanza

Esperanza is a pretty girl

with big brown eyes, silky black hair,

low self esteem but a body to kill for.

She is after rich men,

but they will only use her.

She does not realize her potential,

her mama told her to hook a spouse

and then have a lot of kids and you’ll be free.

But she is already starting to hate being a woman.

The Man

He walks by construction site

No one is there

A ghost town – no work –

no movement except

for the man’s quick steps.c

He is the last of the ambitious.

He is the last of Capitalism.

The First

I gazed at you through silver haze

magnetized by black irises.

In thoughtless wonder I seemed soothed,

drenched in bubbles of soapy security,

until soaked and wrinkled, I gazed…

dumbfounded.

I gazed, naked in a steamy tub,

bathing in shallow water.

TWA

The day finally was here!

I’m flying to London, then Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam

and then back to Paris.

We were on TWA 747 and my dad upgraded

us to First Class!  Yahoo!

So we had soft blankets, and real pillows.

We were lavished with champagne and caviar,

linen napkins, a real menu.

I chose prime ribs that were served

with au jus sauce and baby carrots.

Then, for dessert:  gigantic ice cream sundaes!

It was too good to be true.

But not long after our meal was complete

and in between the beginning of Titanic,

we hit turbulence.  Thunder, lightning!

We bounced up and down like bobbing heads

on car dashboards.

People began to scream and cry.

I was laughing because that’s how always deal

with fear and especially terror.

And then the captain came on the loud speaker

and said, “Sorry for that, it’s over for now.  Sit back and enjoy

your flight.”

And before Titanic sunk, we landed in London.
