When last did I see a firefly?
When I was a child,
I remember a preponderance
of their flickering every summer.
Maybe because
I’m long past bartering
with my mother to stay outside
in the backyard,
I no longer have the vantage from which to succumb
to their blinking presence.
a preponderance
of their flickering
lovely image 🙂
Thank you!
you’ve captured a sacred memory
Thank you!
I miss fireflies too! You brought back my childhood fondness and now my adult loss. I am reminded to remember them with loving respect. Good job MelNeet
Thank you very much, dianemurryward!
Love that last stanza. Wonderful!
Thank you, Caitlin. Very appreciated.
Lovely. I have never seen fireflies in my life
When I was young, we would see them every summer. We’d capture them in glass jars to see them light up before letting them fly away.
Thank you for reading the poem.
