the prettiest flowers in our yard
grew in a row against the first shed;
light purples and long green stalks,
we kids would pick them and make
flower dolls with the Hollyhock skirts
adorning the delicate knobby head.
I’ve not been blessed to see a Hollyhock
since childhood, but I remember well
their unique foliage, tender flowering pods and
light smell.

I love hollyhocks and I have to admit that reading this made me reminisce just as you. I love your description of how you would pick them/the flower and make flower dolls with Hollyhock skirts…this is very vivid! Beautiful imagery! Yes, their petals look like skirts- Beautiful!
Thank you for our kind words about my Hollyhock poem. My memory is sweet ~ just like the flowers themselves!
