Used to Love H.I.M. (12:00 PM) – edit in process (Hour 4)

~ D², @d2poetry

Hollow Yearning

Empty Offerings

Shallow Interest

Vapid Speeches

Incongruent Reaches

Trifling Sentiment

Anemic Concern

PUI suggestion by Trista Kay
PUI: Used to Love H.I.M.
I took some liberties on this suggestion. I landed on his song Used to Love H.E.R. – which was a celebration of Hip Hop which stands for “Hip-Hip in her Essence is Real” or “Hearing Every Rhyme” and I took this as a break up with patriarchy where H.I.M. stands for “Historical Influences of every Mind”

Get My Hair Did (11:00 AM) – edit done (Hour 3)

~ D², @d2poetry

Between her knees
braced to tackle my glory
stiff plastic combs
snapping
at any moment
head so tender
got me squirming
moaning
momma’s focused stern warnings
keeps me from runnin’

“Can I pick out my barrettes?”
“Naw girl, it won’t go with what you have on this morning!”

my pouty glance
softens her stance
she relents to my
mix and match plans

a puff on the top
twisted plaits on each side
blue grease making my “baby hair” mind

“Girl, go stand up
get ready for school”
pass by the mirror
smile, “I look good”

turn to see her sitting

still

longing
to sit back on that floor

the sacred spot
where my crown was tamed
formed by her strong hands
where momma loved on me
just as I am.

This suggestion took me to the morning ritual in my mother and grandmother that held so much tenderness and correction.

His (10:00 AM) – edit done (Hour 2)

~ D², @d2poetry

There is a blue shirt

in my closet

in the back corner

still with the tag from his
dry cleaners

still with the crease of his
collar

still with the memory of his scent
in its stale odor

still with his style
and his order

still with his smile
as I held him

still with his voice
as I nuzzled

still with my tears
on its shoulders.

There is a blue shirt

last worn by my father

still on a hanger

in my closet

in the back corner.

PUI suggestion by Eva Peace
PUI: His
The suggestion was to create a piece processing mourning. I reflected on a shirt that I am attached to belonging to my father. He passed away on March 25, 2003. (Robert Bernard Dalton)

Epilogue: A Second Look (8:00 AM)

Epilogue: A Second Look (Ecclesiastes 12:9-14)
~ by D², @d2poetry

exposure
creates space
to touch truth

faith
holds space
to mature

knowing
clears up space
opening up measures of time

study
with purpose divine
not
the ego of mind

in all things
still
hold up God in
reverential fear

for no action
thought
word
emotion
motivation
inclination
inspiration
anticipation
or recreation
is secret

to God all
will be revealed

Close to the End
~ by D², @d2poetry

I’m close to the end
and shouting

fighting all kinds of
Crazy

but I enjoy it

this has
stretched
blessed

shown me my potential

for that I am
grateful

As Qoheleth Admires The Truth (6:00 AM)

As Qoheleth Admires The Truth (Ecclesiastes 12:9-14)
~ by D², @d2poetry

captured in the
commandments
bathed in righteousness

God is Righteousness

human reach
captures a mere
portion of love

God is Love

expanding to touch us all

God is Counselor, God is Comforter

leaving etchings in our hearts
as pure foundation

God is Source

while shifting nonsense
makes room for knowledge

God is Truth

the awe of the beauty
of a God we can’t see

God is Omnipresent

complex layers
never fully reveal

God is Omniscient

How amazing is The Divine

God is Omnipotent

birthed from no one
yet
eternally
still

God Is

Mounting

Forging

Binding

Fearing

You Were Called for This (3:00 AM)

You Were Called for This (Ecclesiastes 11:1-6)
~ by D², @d2poetry

laser pointed firmly on my

target

a goal with solid steps

measured

moments prudently organized and

planned

to move as required to get the job

done

are the days of aimless

activity

has a solid purpose, a life beckoning others to

eternity

is our reward for a belief in God who knows

everything

happens solely in Jehovah’s time and reasoning.

Ashé and Amen.
