#6 Why, oh why?

Oh, my gosh! You did it again.

Why are you convinced I need a new friend?

Why did you get that puppy?

That ‘Molly’ tried to chew my tail!

She chewed up a shoe and half the mail.

Did you notice she pees on the rug?

She chased the cat, made her hiss and run.

You won’t let me and it’s so much fun.

Did you see her try to steal my food?

She snuck upon me and slept on my leg.

If I chase her away, she whimpers and begs.

Maybe I like her… just a little.

But you still love me, right?

#5 Neighbor

Clean up that yard for heaven’s sake!

Don’t you even own a rake?

It’s a useful activity, so do some weed-wacking.

But no! You take off and go back-packing.

Pay someone to do it. You could, you know.

Just don’t let those weeds grow!

#4 Avalanche Blanche and Snowshoe

Some say she was born in a snow cave on Sunlight Peak in ’92.

Others say she came from Crestone Needle with her rabbit named Snowshoe.

Avalanche Blanche, Avalanche Blanche. When the snow mass shifts, she’ll be there for you.

Blanche has big wide feet like snowshoes and eyes that see through snow.

She carries thermal blankets and coffee – maybe a gallon or so.

Avalanche Blanche, Avalanche Blanche. When the snow mass shifts, she will always know.

She doesn’t need a shovel, cause Snowshoe digs like a whirlwind, you see.

Around his neck, Snowshoe carries a beacon, so help comes 1-2-3.

Avalanche Blanche, Avalanche Blanche. When the snow mass shifts, she’ll get you free.

#3 Not Much for Fishing

Not much for fishing,

but I caught a lot of tadpoles

with my hand and a jar.

Not much for fishing,

but swimming in the river

a turtle caught my toe.

Not much for fishing,

but I washed a picnic bowl

and caught some minnows.

Not much for fishing,

caught butterflies, frogs, crayfish;

but never used hooks.

#2 After Hours Garden

Moonlight whispers through a soft rain

The after hours garden rests

No rush

Roots slowly pushing

Silent buds stretching, soft and sure

Treasure glistens every leaf

Breathless beauty

Summer Beach

I bounce in the cool rush of waves

Taste salt on my lips

Toes touch and release unseen sand

I bounce in the cool rush of waves

Watch the winding flights of seagulls

Feel the wind blowing the sound of transistor radios

I bounce in the cool rush of waves

Past the breakers

A little too young for summer love

A little too old for sand castles

Dogs, Garden Rain, and Exploration

Hi, I’m Nancy from Wheat Ridge, Colorado. I’m sort of wandering aimlessly through the emails and postings… not sure where I should be or what I should be doing.  My daughters presented me with a puppy Saturday morning and I have gotten little done since then. I left teaching middle school after 15 years this year, so this is my summer to explore and find out where the next ramble will take me. I have been doing a lot of nonfiction writing, fighting the incredible growth in the backyard after endless rain, and emptying unloved or unnecessary things from my small, very small, house.

I joined the Poetry Marathon, because I haven’t spent a lot of time on poetry for some time and have missed it.
