Scott Coe is a performance poet and artist. He can be found on Instagram and Twitter as @ScottACoe . He believes poetry should always be written from the heart – it’s all about feeling and is always at it’s best when written in the moment, when the thoughts run straight from your soul to the pen. . He began writing, not as a poet, but as a lyricist, citing the likes of Noel Gallagher, Guy Chambers, Lennon and McCartney, and Bob Dylan as primary influences. In terms of Poetry he recalls being influenced by Wordsworth and Shakespeare’s sonnets. Recently he’s been spending more time discovering works by other more established poets. In particular he’s been drawn to the likes of Rupert Brooke, Lord Byron and R.S Thomas.
Stupid Recipe Prompt
1/2 marathon poem #2
Take 1 stupid prompt.
Add a generous helping of overcomplicated rules.
Add approximately 500-1000 frustrated poets.
A dash of desperation.
Allow to boil over furiously for about an hour.
Ignore for 24 hours before tasting – mostly bitter.

Cast her long shadow over Britain’s poor
Maggie the destroyer of miner’s hopes
Cast her long shadow over pit and moor
The blue dragon with an icy soul
Spits her bitter breathe over Tyne and Trent
Maggie the heartless thief of children’s milk
Winter’s bitter taste of our discontent
The Iron woman with an heart of stone
Fated by the warm bile upon her throne
Maggie killed by her own poll tax spell
Taken to the sword by all of her own.
