Thanks, sheilas!! I do know about it and appreciate your thoughts on this working for next year. I did send a few haiku in years back but didn’t get anything. My friend, Lysa Collins got an honourable mention this year – that was very cool! Do you send in to the haiku contest?
Thanks, ChristinaSng – my mom is in a different province and will be coming out in two weeks to visit – this poem might not resonate as much were it not for the pandemic. Keep on getting those treasured hugs!
Thank you for your comment – I really appreciate it!! š
Let me join the chorus of voices here to say how wonderful I think this one is! Each line does such careful, perfect work. A great example of how less is more.
Thanks, Diane! I am considering submitting this poem as one of my two. And thank you for reading my blog – I just retired from 30 years of teaching at-risk students and reading was always a problem for them – Orca and Lorimer both publish hi-lo novels and they make reading more accessible. I was so lucky to find them because I love writing for this niche market, and of course, supporting literacy!!
Iām a huge fan of haiku, Cristy. Perfect form for this clear, sharply lined feeling ~
Thanks, Britton!! I love haiku, as well but still find it challenging to write! Glad this one worked!
Lovely! Do you know about the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s haiku contest? Over for this year, but you may want to submit this one next year.

Nice picture. I can see this hug.
Thank you, kriscleage!! I am thinking there will be a lot of these in the coming weeks…
I treasure every time my daughter hugs me. Such a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you, Rebecca!! Haiku isn’t always easy because of the brevity, but I am glad this one worked!
Ahhhh, this is beautiful … so vivid, so clear, so heart-felt. Lovely work.
(Congratulations on your very full writing career. I read your bio … didn’t know about this niche area of YA publishing. Wonderful!)
