Walking with the Light (Hour Ten, A Somanka)

Walking with the Light

Please, Momma, tell me,

can Life go on without you?

My heart won’t believe.

My mind cannot conceive of

a world without your smile.

My dear LaChrista,

apple of my eye, best friend,

be-lov-ed daughter,

I promise you’ll be okay.

I’m still walking beside you.

For LaChrista, the daughter she left behind

In loving memory of my soul sister Derese

(A somonka is a pair of tankas written in two different voices that carries a central theme of love. Each tanka is composed of five lines, with a syllable count of 5/7/5/7/7, respectively.)

Prompt 24 (Hour #5 2020)

So this year I thought I’d shake things up a bit and challenge myself, so I am mixing up the prompts and attempting them in no organised order I am simply following where my heart guides me
Also my original idea was to get the words on the image itself which I terribly failed at.  🙁

Just to refresh (Prompt #5 of 2020- Using one or more of these images as a jumping off point, write a poem. All of the images are sourced from Unplash.)

Micropoem #1

Fly me to the moon my love,
on wings of pure light
lead the way
to the promised lands
of forgotten tomorrows.
Maybe darkness and light
can create an ethereal symphony,
like the one before our eyes.
With you by my side,
all my dreams do come true.

Micropoem #2

My love has no beginning
and no end,
like space -it is in a state of infinity.

Prompt 23 (hour #5 2020) Roots

They’re all roots darling,
we are all deeply connected to the cosmos.
up high -reaching for the sky
the other is beneath the ground we tread..

Our journeys may vary
but our destination is the same..
We’re all headed in the same direction.

We meet in full circles
living our lives
Another trip around the sun.
We rejoice and mourn,
we feel everything so deeply,
we bleed, burn, still we rise.
we cry, lose,
we fight and fail.
we are continually growing towards the sun.
We reunite and we connect.

We’re all roots darling.

prompt no 22

Something about the way you look at me
You see right through my facade and bullshit.
You crumble me down to the bone.
My soul recognizes you as a familiar stranger.
Your gaze makes me feel so vulnerable and raw.
I am falling into pieces, won’t you come save me?

Micro poem #1

To have hope in your heart is strength in itself.

Micro poem #2

The light never died,
It was inside you all along.

Prompt no 21 Human Craving

I crave deep, meaningful connections.
I long for honest, unfiltered conversations.
With absolutely anyone who is willing to pour their heart out.

In the age of social distancing,
I miss human touch,
the healing power of a hug,
the warmth in a handshake;
the reassurance and confidence
that lies in the firm, confident grip.

I crave unique communications that expands beyond mere words.

While everybody is busy hoarding up,
I have learned the harsh reality of greed
and it has the capacity to erase humanity.

But I still crave the human touch.
I want to feel human again…

Alas! The immune system isn’t immune to everything.

An Awkward Alliance (Hour Eight, A Sevenling)

An Awkward Alliance

Life, as he’d lived it, leaned largely on logic.

His expertise evolved from extensive experience, not degrees nor diplomas.

Surrounded by stupidity, he elected to educate everyone in earshot with “Lessons by Lonnie.”

An emboldened empath, energized and enlightened, intuition and insight were the tools of her trade.

She functioned fully on faith and feelings, empowered by expressing emotions.

A constant craving for connection compelled her to create.

In a world full of strangers, their awkward alliance was the most marvelous mismatch of least likely lovers.

(A sevenling is made up of seven lines. Lines 1-3 should be connected or contrasting statements or list three details. The same goes for lines 4-6. Line 7 should be the punch line, a juxtaposition, or narrative summary.)
