DUSK

The eerie silence…
Creeps through The night skies
With windy sails
Like pockets of phantoms in audacious glide

Belching steamy clouds of brazen fear…
With power cut to boot

The hovels, harems and homes clutch to life with hapless Gail…
While hovering darkness in steely clods embroils naked earth…
Pockets of generator fumes on skyward trail and dingy lights hanging
The blighted streets…

Welcome to a chaotic slum
Where night reeks
The stench of death
And spills the venom of fear…
We hope our communal lords
Etch their names with right of light
For all to gulp
And for posterity’s delight.

The Revolt Poet – David’s Ode.

It was in the common room
Of the Graveston, where I first set eyes on you,
And of course, I knew
That which I had to do
But, in that moment, looking down at you,
Eyes so deep brown, I could see through
Them, surrounding by your pinkish hue,
Into your soul,
And right there, I knew our union
Would make me whole
Forever more.
My faith in the world
Only your beauty could restore.
As I felt the touch of your snout, against my skin,
I’d swear it was the tenderest connection, that there has ever been.

And though cynical world, would describe you, as just a pig’s decapitated head,
Its our liaison, and your face I think of, laying in Samantha’s bed.

Prompt #6: Dream of a Better Day

A cool breeze blows through the white curtains as the sun rises over through the trees.
Soft kisses on my shoulders and neck pull me from a deep slumber.
He is making coffee and breakfast for us while I dress for the barn.
It is going to be a beautiful day.
A nice ride through the hills and valleys surrounding the barn,
A little light jumping over fences
Before relaxing for lunch in the barn yard.
As the sun crosses from east to west we make dinner together
Setting the table with candles and a fine wine
Our dinner date is complete with a shared desert and kisses under the stars.

Hour 10: Followed

I’m being followed.
look behind me and I hear
a voice in the dark,
“Take it easy, girl.”

I’m being followed.
look under the bed and I see
two gentle eyes,
“I see you.  Take it easy.”

I’m being followed.
empty my pockets and I find
a note on folded paper,
“When you going to take it easy
on yourself?”

Season of the Endings (Prompt 7)

Subtle as it sweeps in with leaves across wooden floors
Hidden behind faith and a facade of something stable
Comfortability masks the scent as it seeps into your pores
You can’t see it yet but it will come
Nothing in life is unchanging you cannot grip so tightly
Try to preserve the present like a globe to shake whenever you feel bored
Pretend there is no ending but the seasons change
And so do you

Precariously perched on edge waiting for an earthquake
The coldness comes before the breaking
Aching for things to go back the way the were before
Adoration doesn’t fit the decor so you buy new furniture
A bigger bed to fill the empty space
Floor length mirrors to reflect on your resentment
You make this place into a museum
Vacuous and sterile

10. Ghost Boy

Midnight.
Grief dancing.
Loss makes me live
with impossible longing
for your return.
Once I saw light
in the doorway
of your old room
and for two seconds
you were home
again.

Midnight Hike

ready for bed
an early morning tomorrow
but she texts me
so I layer over my pajamas
tie my hiking boots
and go
up the slope, away from lights
snow and ice
sparkling in moon’s glow
my boots slip across
she points out ponds and creeks
overcome by chill and shadow
she seems disappointed
I haven’t seen them green and bright
it is unusual
but I think it’s better
the untamed darkness and cold
I’ve been sheltered from
are new and exciting
the mountain holds its breath
our adventure its secret
enchanted blankness
rough and marred by boot prints
wonderfully refreshing

Soul Vision – Prompt #10 – kjkidder 2020

There’s always a silver lining,

be it shrouded in pain.

Every loss brings a gift of gain,

A perspective not often shared.

Sightedness depends not on eyes

But rather, on soul vision

Sound waves hitting our ears

Don’t always ring true

It’s that intuition in me and you

It’s the truth that’s planted deep

In our psyche to keep us alive

Alive in our spirit asking questions

Questions too huge to answer till

We are ready to see false truth

For what it is.

Till we are ready to acknowledge

Lies when confronted.

Who do I trust?

Why do I trust?

How do I know I can trust?

If faced with a heavy loss, what then?

Will I think my usefulness at an end?

No, not I. My future is bright and hopeful.

My end is just my beginning.

It is the release from dependence

On who I am, what I can do, from me, my, mine.

It is the culmination of the new birth

In understanding everything and needing

Nothing more than Jesus.

Moonshadow

Have you ever heard the story of the moon?
How when the world was born so were the three brothers.
The Sun, the Moon, and the Moon Shadow.

As time went on the Moon shadow failed to have a cemented role,
So he was cursed to always be the shadow of his older brother.
Till an angel fell when the clouds broke free,
And when she did the skies went dark.
The Moon Shadow curious to know,
Battled his brother to see what had happened.
He draped the world in his cloak of darkness,
And all the angel could see was the dark side of the moon.

In that very moment, she became a nyctophiliac,
And wed the Moon Shadow.
But alas he had to return to his brother’s back,
But not before he promised his angel he would return.

So each night there is an eclipse,
The angel has fallen out of the sky,
And awaits the arrival of her bethrothed.
Till he has to retreat,
And wait for the next eclipse.
When he will see his beloved

Sunbeams

The sunshine won’t carry me to my dreams
but I sure would like to ride
those golden rays
out towards my future.

The sun won’t bring me any joy
but I want to spread my wings
like a butterfly
in the warm fields.

The sunbeams won’t take away my worries
but I squint my eyes
in anticipation of
a brighter day somewhere.

If I look hard enough past the rays
I can see something glittering
in the distance
beckoning me
out of the darkness
into something that could be called
tomorrow
