Ready

I’m Donna from LA and I’m ready to write more haiku for the second year in a row of doing the half marathon!

Hello!

I thought the Marathon was a national event, but I see some posts from Australia, so it’s even better!  I’m looking forward to the challenge and hope to communicate with some of my fellow poets as well as enjoying their work.

Hello from Connecticut!

I am originally from a small town in southwest Washington State, about 30 minutes from Portland, OR. But now I live smack dab in the middle of Connecticut. If anyone out there is a west coaster in an east coast world, shout out!

I am a writer of poetry and short stories and I also enjoy ping pong and whitewater kayaking. I will be participating in the full marathon and will try to write half of the 24 in a specific form. Mostly terzanelle, tanaga, sonnet, and tanka. What kind of forms will everyone be doing?

Hello!!

I’m Claire! I live in Brisbane. I perform my poetry quite regularly at The Little Prince Espresso and The Lucky Duck Cafe. You might have seen me around! I have my first book of poetry being published very soon through Unknown Artists, which is very exciting! I also write short horror fiction, and I am currently working on a novel about the Vietnam War.

So excited for this marathon!!

Not long now…

Hello
Thought I’d post a quick note, to make sure I know how this works before Saturday.
I am from Nottingham, England, and I am thinking how nice it might be to include a bit of local heritage and history into what I write.
We’ll see!
Looking forward to “meeting” you all!

Dogs, Garden Rain, and Exploration

Hi, I’m Nancy from Wheat Ridge, Colorado. I’m sort of wandering aimlessly through the emails and postings… not sure where I should be or what I should be doing.  My daughters presented me with a puppy Saturday morning and I have gotten little done since then. I left teaching middle school after 15 years this year, so this is my summer to explore and find out where the next ramble will take me. I have been doing a lot of nonfiction writing, fighting the incredible growth in the backyard after endless rain, and emptying unloved or unnecessary things from my small, very small, house.

I joined the Poetry Marathon, because I haven’t spent a lot of time on poetry for some time and have missed it.

Hello from Massachusetts

Hello, I’m Eve. I’m a word nerd from Massachusetts. I teach 5th grade and this past year had the greatest of pleasures introducing poetry to my students. We read it, we wrote it, we shared it, we discovered it, and they finally, much to my great joy, both girls and boys alike, fell in love with  the magic of beautiful words! They are always looking for words that inspire them, just like their teacher!

The weekend of the marathon is also the last weekend before school lets out for the summer, so I will be closing out grades and working on things that will need to be done by  next Monday morning in addition to working my second job. But I I could not resist the idea of writing 24 poems!

I look forward to meeting all of you and reading the words that make each of you unique!

Good luck!

About Me

My name is Melissa Patterson. I am a Caregiver by day and a writer of

short stories and poetry (free verse, tanka, haiku, haibun) by night.

This is my first poetry marathon. I am excited to be particpating in

the half marathon. I didn’t think I could stay up to do the full.

Splendid.

It is really nice to be here for the challenge. I hope to savour from the offerings across board.
Cheers

Getting to know me

Hi all,

I am a fifty-eight year old woman who is married and has two kids. My daughter is twenty five and my son is twenty. I have a dog who’s breed is Australian Shepard. My background is science and I have always loved writing. I leave it for awhile sometimes but always go back to it.

I love learning and am always taking courses from cooking to quilting. I work as a technician in a soil fertility lab. I have a degree in biology. I love yoga and spin class. I am a volunteer tutor in an adult literacy program.

I really have done nothing so far to prepare for the marathon except activating this account and posting on facebook! Looking forward to all the creativity next Saturday and have figured out that my start time will be 6am PST so will have to haul myself out of bed early. I am doing a half marathon for this year.
