Prompt Seven

season of the bohemian waxwing

when i tipped my feathers with red,
and floundered in the forest of yellow cedars

stood shakily on the branches of the blackberry
bush, intoxicated with fermented fruit

thinking i had found a spruce for building
my nest and mating

but a winter of snow meant
road salt in the spring water

that turned my insides bitter
and left me without young

for years to come

  1. You made such a point in the powerful way of poetry. Condensing a message down to a few lines often reaches more folks than a report of several pages. Thank you for writing such a fine poem. ☺

    1. Thank you, Nancy Ann! I appreciate your feedback!! I agree that part of the ‘pull of poetry’ is when we can glean meaning from a few words – I am glad that you feel I was able to achieve that with this poem! 🙂

  2. I love this one, Cristy, and would love to give a shout out to this poem on the FB page. I’d like to tag you however, and I am not able to find you on the member page.

    1. Thank you, Skay!! I don’t know how I missed the 2020 facebook page? I could have sworn I posted on it? Ha ha! I have just submitted my request to join! Will keep you posted and thank you for this wonderful shout-out!!

    2. Thanks again, Skay – finally sorted it all out and I am on the FACEBOOK 2020 Poetry Marathon page – yeah!!! I am happy to reciprocate, if you are still keen on tagging my post? I have very few comments on my poems thus far and would love to get a better sense of which ones to choose for my two! I so appreciate the time you have taken to comment on my poems and the work of others! 🙂
