12- Daughter Dear

Freckles

Blue eyes and a bubbly laugh

She loves the tire swing in the backyard

Her daddy pushes her and  she throws her head back

Life is a good place

Dots

Her stuffed cat she always holds

They share a spot on mommy’s lap while a story is read

Of princesses and magic spells. Her eyes shut as she drifts in a dream

Hearts over flow with love

Spots

Of mud cover her body from play

She’s a mermaid in the bath hidden by soap

Honest eyes and words of an innocent soul

Safe in her parents care

11- 3 AM Pancakes

A long day

Traffic jams and writers block

The ponytail ripping the hair off her head

And a throbbing, sleepless body

A long day

Adding miles and losing clients

Exhaustion trips and kicks him to death

Caffeine eyes hold open

Together now

Home at last with a sigh

Craving their bed while sleep walking

They’ve missed the other

Together now

Savor a moment sweet

With giggles, kisses and pancakes

Bonding as the world sleeps

10- In a Blink

And my heart skips a beat

My knees feel like collapsing

My head is spinning like a carousel

My mouth is dry and wide open

I’m floating off the ground

I replay it in my head

No, he said what I heard

And my eyes get teary

The corners of my mouth are pinching

My cheeks are hot, no, on fire

So I run to the lake

And I am fully immersed

I surface refreshed

And there are people dancing and singing

A rainbow sits in the sky

I walk in the moss with bare feet

And the sun kisses my face

One blink. I’m back.

I Love You Too”

9- I am a Spider

I am often alone

Don’t seem to be liked

No one to call a friend

I’m a seamstress

I’m a hunter

Yet my skills are overlooked

And I’m doomed to the destiny

Of the soul of a shoe

8- Life in Colour

A black crow sits outside my window

The sky is dark and it smells of rain

My black cat brushes against me in the hall

I rub my eyes with my dry hands

And pick up my black socks off the floor

I walk to work with my red umbrella

A man on the street sells red apples, I pay

As a red fire truck zooms down the street

I trip over the curb and fall

Red blood drips from my lip where I bit

Feeling blue I reach my office

The receptionist in a blue dress smiles sweetly

My desk greets me with blueberries gone bad

Frustration sighs at a miserable day

My blue eyes close for a breath

7-Inside Out

Inside

A heartbeat bold and brave

Willing to serve or fight

Blood infused with high standards

A thoughtful mind

Strong bones to endure

Reserved lips

Generous teeth

Observing eyes

Sympathetic ears listen

Hands to lift and hold

Humble knees

Onward moving feet

A face the welcome sign

Presents a person from the

Outside

6- Small Silly Things

Your words cut

I lay awake with the moon

Replaying the reel over

Are you conscious of me?

A mind wrestle

Wanting you to hear the silence

Realize. Hold me tight

Wipe my tears

You now sleep

Forgive and forget, now rest

You’re here. That matters

The morning fresh start

Awaken with kisses

A loving look shared between

Your world and mine. Let go

Of small, silly things

5- Just a Car

Just a car

Driving time

A gravel road

Our favourite song

Deep hearts talk

Listen and feel

A star lit sky

Swaying fields

Connection of love

Imprinting a moment

Inhale the memory

Hold on still

4- Mamas Fridge

I’m a finger painter

I can spend hours at my easel at a time

And Mama says I’m her favourite artist

The fridge holds my art with pride

I’m a ballet dancer

I practice every day until my feet hurt

And Mama watches every recital

The fridge holds my dance shot with pride

I graduated nursing school

I worked hard for years to reach my goal

And Mama’s my biggest support

The fridge holds my graduation picture with pride

I found the love of my life

We are getting married in the spring

And Mama’s by my side through it all

The fridge holds the announcement with pride

3- Silhouettes

We are bodies

We walk the same earth

I have two eyes, you have ten fingers

And yet we are all different

We are spirits

We experience emotions

I have cried and you have smiled

And we have our own souls

We are silhouettes

With a string of lights

Shinning each step, glowing each change

And we all have our own story
