feeding koi
liquid silver bleed into pollock’s
convergence, splashing brightly
against the surface before returning to
cool, deep waters
random slivers of
sunlight bath your sleeping face:
summer dawn breaking
cloud turtles in a piedmont sky drifting westward
are soon as lost to me as your voice;
did you know when we met that we
would end like this?
even now I struggle with the idea
of loss, of never, of forever.
In the morning I went about life
coffee, laundry, reading –
completely unaware that
the world was ending.
In the evening, I fell and fell
deeper into the nothingness
of the chasm that opened
without warning beneath me.
Somewhere between those
pinpoints of time,
the world spit me out into
chaos, into the dark.
bright moon in night sky
reflected in still water,
beautiful springtime
