Gorgeous town
built into a rock
Your images I see
make me lusty.
This desire is
more than sex
I long to melt into
your open arms
To be locked in
your warm embrace
Just as you’re welded
into the rock
My tourist spirit craves
for an intercourse
Setenil de las Bodegas
for you I’ll speak Spanish.
Such a sensuous connection – the attraction for this place lies heavy across each line – a wonderfully unusual way to explore a reaction to somewhere you’ve travelled.
The poem succeeded in arousing the readers’ curiosity and left it there. Perhaps that’s the intention. We would have loved to know a little more about this city, at least enough to identify with it. But then poetry could also be simply intended to be a piece of suspense.
